"Do you need effective tools to help you disciple the faithful? Let me recommend Joy's wonderful resource. Put this in the hands of your student leaders. The kingdom of God will grow in breadth and depth as a result."
Harvey Herman, National Field Representative - Atlantic Coast, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries
Seriously, the material is exciting. With Tools, we have taken a big step forward in our ability to produce mature believers on campus. I have spoken to so many campus leaders who are not really sure what to do in their one to one relationship with student leaders.
We need to especially focus on potential leaders and new believers with this sort of material. Curt Harlow, national staff, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries
I'm using Tools with a Christian grad student from Uzbekistan. I just finished going through the Tools section on Sex and Dating with a Japanese new Christian. She enjoyed it and so did I! Gale, International Students, Inc.
While I attended Bible college, I was presented with the call and challenge of being a world changer. However, I lacked a clear set of tools to accomplish that great task. After graduation, I was presented with the call and challenge of being a faithful discipler. Tools for Mentoring is a clear and relevant tool that equips the faithful discipler to change the world. Kathryn Boyak, campus pastor, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, Oregon University
For the past ten years Ive been doing one-on-one discipleship with university students, and this is the best tool Ive come across. The format leads to interactive two-way discussions and great application. Youve made the work of discipleship more consistent. The subjects are well organized and cover many of the issues college students face. Youve put together a usable tool. Thanks for making my job easier. Paul Austin, Chi Alpha pastor at Idaho State University
The mentoring notebook is a great resource for student leaders to address some typical and necessary topics in one-on-ones, small group or even a class. The material on overcoming sin is excellent and foundational to living for Christ for the rest of our lives. Curtis Hobbs, Chi Alpha campus pastor University of Wyoming (now Poland)
Thank you for putting this manual together and sharing it with us! We have found it to be very helpful and need more! Kathleen Costello, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, Montclair State, New Jersey
What an awesome tool for discipleship! We find that students are so inept in their understanding of biblical truth. So, we use Tools for Mentoring to establish a firm foundation for their faith. Each chapter we go through with students brings up huge issues and opportunities for God to bring healing and deliverance. For example, when I taught our students from the Time Management section, most students had no idea of what their life goals were. Filling out the list for what if you have only six months to live, drove home the priority of relationships. Chuck Lester, campus pastor, University of Tennessee?
I want to use Tools for Mentoring with everyone I come in contact with. I'll be in a conversation and think to myself, Oh, you need to go through the Forgiving, or Guidance, or whatever section of Tools! It's simple enough for someone new in the faith and deep enough for someone who's walked a long time with the Lord. Kelly Kirksey, Chi Alpha Campus Pastor
Small group leaders
I have had the privilege of leading a study on prayer. Your notebook rocks! Your tools in the Prayer section were an amazing addition to our study.
Thank you for giving and pressing into the Lord so college students like myself can be blessed, equipped, and grow in Christ. Britney, student small group leader, Oregon University
From Tools for Mentoring, I was able to pull out tangible, credible materials for topics that I felt God wanted me to cover. Tools is simple, direct, and easy to understand for anyone, no matter what level they are on with God. Shawnna, student small group leader, Montana State University
"The section on the Holy Spirit answered every question I had!" a student at University of Montana
"Tools for Mentoring is a tremendous resource for Bible study leaders as well as a personal growth guide. Joy has clearly constructed and organized each section of the manual, pouring honesty and straightforwardness into practical application. The added animation makes it more hands-on for visual learners like myself. The God-given insight with which she has written the manual makes it a valuable and easy tool to use. The questions provoke group discussion and often bring up new twists to ideas I thought were already pounded to death. Tools for Mentoring has been a blessing as I have worked through areas in my personal life and now as I lead a Bible study. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is seeking a deeper understanding of God's amazing plan for our lives. An investment that lasts!" Amy Annette Smith, student leader, Montana State University-Billings
I needed to help a new Christian sort through some very difficult financial problems and didn't know where to start. Together we worked through the Financial Management section of the notebook and developed a very practical and biblical way to manage debts and store up treasures in heaven. The student realized the importance of tithing based on the Scripture references provided and began to step out in faith and obedience. The same day she tithed 10% she was given money to attend a ministry conference and received $10 MORE than what she had given. Lisa Frey, Chi Alpha staff, Montana State University
Youth pastors
For each individual wanting to pursue Gods direction for their life
, Tools for Mentoring would be a great tool for you to use in helping them accomplish a basic structure for their spiritual life. We are finding it very profitable in training counselors, mentoring between senior pastors and youth pastors, and helping young men and women grasp ministry. Keith Elder, Assemblies of God Montana District Youth Supervisor
Bible study leaders
Im using Tools for our womens Bible study. We really like it! Bible study leader in rural Montana
A book of this type is long overdue. Tools for Mentoring goes far beyond simply laying out what we believe. It gives the user a hands-on lesson as to how what we believe affects our daily life." Patrick Jolly, Bible study leader
Church pastors and leaders
After doing prayer counsel with an individual, I send him home with a relevant section of Tools as homework which he brings back to our next session. I often us the Forgiving section. Todd Hoberecht, Christian Center, Bozeman, Montana
In our little Lutheran church, we are planning this fall to teach a cell group on Christian basics using Tools. Thanks, Joy, for your labors on this book. It is perfect for where we are at as a church in terms of covering basics that many have never fully understood and practiced. It will work greatly toward the goal of encouraging people to step out and knowledgably share their faith. Larry and Becky, Kalispell, MT
Internships
You have put a very useful tool into the hands of our leaders that will enable them to build others in our community and beyond. I can see eternity written all over this manual. A Chi Alpha internship program that uses Tools commented to me, Its powerful, fulfills its stated purpose. Bob Marks, National Internship Director, Chi Alpha Campus Ministries

If our outreach team had studied the Authority section, I believe our experience would have been much different. Short-term mission team leader
We appreciate your care and your dedication to the betterment of our young people. (Your Tools will go to disciple street men in the Philippines. Tools will also go to) the founders and supervisors of a home for sexually abused and abandoned girls in Mindanao, Philippines. They will be blessed and discipled by your teachings. Ken Arrand, Youth With A Mission, Philippines
Ordinary people
I am using Tools for a new program set up at the prison for certain DUI offenders. They have a mandatory sentence to be served which can include a Bible study. Tools works because it teaches biblical principles simply and clearly, terms are defined, lessons can be photocopied, the small lessons within the section make it easy to fit into a short time frame, and it is attractively packaged. Layman doing prison ministry
Tools for Mentoring is perhaps one of the BEST purchases I have ever made. It is so clear!
Lori, ordinary person using Tools for self-study and helping friends
Tools is very user-friendly when you dont have much leadership experience or are not very mature in Christ. Its clear and easy to use. If someone is a little intimidated about using the Bible, Tools makes the Bible easy to understand no matter where you are in your Christian walk. I took all my leaders in the Mothers of Preschoolers through the Time Management section. I gave my brother, who is not a Christian, the Sex and Dating section. Angella
I was working with a team of women in my church when one of the women tried to undermine the leader and take over the ministry. I brought the Authority section to one of our meetings and we studied it together. The women embraced the teaching and the conflict was diverted. Tanya
Friends helping friends
My wife left me for a friend of mine and took our five children. God used the Suffering section that a friend sent me to turn my baby steps into a giant leap forward into healing. A pastor
We are using Tools with my brother who recently became a Christian. He has benefited marvelously from it in healing, cleansing, and encouragement. It has been such a great help to us because you did all the work for us. You make it easy to get to the important things quickly and know we wont miss anything. Becky
